# 2016 Fall & Winter Release # Happy New Year

2016 Fall & Winter Holiday Release Part 4: A New Die for a New Year

Hello friends.  Christina from Chrissy Mac Designs here today showcasing the Cheery Lynn Designs Happy New Year 4 Piece Die Set - B851.  That's right...a new die for a new year!

I decided to do a pretty clean and simple card letting the die set elements be the star...no pun intended.  I think this would qualify as a CAS card as the design is quite clean and it was very simple to make.  I thought that this die set had everything I needed to make a fun card and by keeping the design fairly simple, it provided a perfect opportunity to use some unique materials I have been wanting to play with.

I used two different real wood papers, a printed cork and a heavy glitter paper.  This is a 4.75" x 6.25" size card.  I started with a white card stock base to build on.

I really love this Happy New Year die set.  I could use this die over and over.  After making my cuts to build my base card, I started cutting my layers.  The first layer was cut at the same size of card base in a thin white birch paper by ARC Crafts which I stained on the edges with watercolors, but you could honestly use wood stain, acrylic, distress ink, markers, etc. to do this.  To make the rest of the rectangle cuts, I used the Cheery Lynn Designs rectangle stitch and cut die set.

The second layer was cut out of a printed cork sheet.  The dies cut the wood and the cork with no problem at all.  The next layer was cut out of a heavy glittered cardstock and the final rectangular layer was cut out of a cheery wood paper that was so thick that I was not sure if the die would cut through it.  I am using the Big Sister Die Cut & Emboss machine and because I had control over the pressure I was able to dial in what would cut through the 1/16" to 1/8" real wood paper.  And I went back to the white birch paper layered with a thin crafter's foam and the glitter paper for the cut out of the Happy New Year sentiment and star and streamer embellishments.  I again colored the wood with watercolor layering the two hats cut off of a die cut into the glitter paper and added sparkle gems to the hats and each corner of the cherry wood rectangle.  So that the first layer of stained white birch could peek through the edge, I distressed the cork edge using an exacto knife and letting my finger then allow the cork edge to crumble where cuts were made.  This was easy and fun and a really neat look with the wood papers and cork.
