Deutchland Doily Tutorial

The new doilies that Cheery Lynn Designs released in October are two part dies.  The outer die and an inner die that only cuts a pattern, not a complete shape.  For my card today, I am using the new Deutchland Doily.  I wanted to create dimension on my card but to do that, I must be able to layer the two pieces of the doily.

I cut each die from green card stock.  As you can see, the smaller die only cuts the opening, not the outer edge.  Since the larger doily has a solid center, how would we line up a die to cut out the center of our doily?

I have the original Little Stackers that have a solid back rather than the see through backs of the new sets.  Using my Circle Little Stackers, I die cut the matching circle from white card stock.

Take the white die cut circle from the previous step, center it and using two sided adhesive stick it down to your doily.

Now take the matching die, line it up on top of the white circle and tape it down.  It will snap right down onto the card stock, and Cheery Lynn dies have no trouble cutting through two layers of card stock.

And here you have a perfectly centered cut out on our doily.

Now let's move on to the smaller die, how can we perfectly line up our matching Scalloped Circle Little Stacker?  Even though I can see through this die, it is still tricky to line the die up.  So using white card stock, cut out the scalloped circle.  This time we will be using the cast off as a mask.

Center the white mask over the green die cut and tape it down.

Take the die and fit it back into the mask.  It should pop right in, tape it down and then die cut it out.

And now we have a wonderful scalloped edge around the center die cut.

Using my Circle Little Stackers, I added a tan backing to the smaller die cut.  Using my Circle Stackers, I added a tan backing to my larger doily die cut.  I added two pieces of Double Scalloped Border to my striped DP.  Lastly I added this beautiful Poinsettia 2.  I dry embossed the back of the petals then popped each layer up adding some gems for the center. Finished size is 5" square.
