You've Got Mail

It's hard to believe only 11 days until Christmas! : )

With the Christmas season just around the corner I was thinking about all the Christmas cards that everyone sends and receives so I thought what a better way to display your cards then in your own mailbox.

After I made the mailbox I thought it was a little plain so I cut a piece of Red glitter paper and covered the mailbox and then added a second piece of striped paper using the Snowflake Edger die for a little more detail.

Once I was happy with look of the mailbox it was too short so I built a simple 2 inch square box and a base to raise it up from the table.

Of course, I had to add flowers and since this was a Christmas mailbox I used Poinsettias made from the Holly Leaves die.

Shabby Chic, Mouse Trap Note Holder

This week for Cheery Lynn Designs, I have revamped a mouse-trap into a note holder, using a range of dies. I have spied these on many social media outlets and just had to try one. These would make wonderful last minute Christmas presents!

On the back of the 'trap' are 3 flat magnets, so the note holder can be placed on the fridge.

Firstly, I spray painted the mouse-trap in white, then started decorating. The base below the mouse-trap is the Swedish Spring Oval Frame, which was cut from chipboard, and spray painted white. Along each side of the mouse-trap the Lace Light Deco Border was used to decorate. To create the main focal rose, I used the Miniature, Medium, and Large rose die's, just building the rose in layers. Beneath the rose, I created a doily by cutting the Lace Corner Deco D 4 times, and adhered all four edges together to form a miniature doily. You may need to enlarge the photographs to see this detail.

Foliage was created in and round the rose using the smallest leaf from the Small Leaves 2, Wreath Strip, and Olive Branches which were cut into smaller segments.

The 'today' sentiment was stamped onto the Sentiment Frame, and mounted on foam tape for dimension.

I will be back early in the new year with more Cheery Lynn Designs. Bj, Mike and Sandy have given the design team some time off over Christmas to spend with family (very spoilt). AND, in the new year (mid January) the design team will be revealing all the CHA release dies. I seriously cannot wait to show you the new release, they are fabulous!!

2 cards and a flower tutorial - Kianel

Hello dear Cheery Lynn friends,

Today i am showing you a card i made which is quite quick and simple.

The base of the card is a cardstock that i worked with the snowflake edger border.

I then made a masking template using the snowflakes die set to decorate my cardstock with ink.

I used the polynesian sail oval and the angel wing and placed the sentiments Happy and birthday in the center.

I then built a flower with Build a flower #2 and added some leaves from the dimensional leaves set #2 small and set #2 large.

Added a few decorations and voilà!

And i also wanted to show you a card i made for a cardmaker's monthly kit i am DTing for here in France. Of course i used some Cheery Lynn Designs dies there but i also made a tutorial on how to make the lace flower as i received quite many questions about that one so here it is and hope this helps:

Base of the card is XL square stackers and large silver square stackers. I also used the cardmakers' stackers and the english tea party doily and coordinated angel wing.

Inside i placed a XL scalloped circle stackers and a large silver circle stackers. In the top corner you can see a die from the deco lace corner #D set. Holly leaves is placed around the flowers.

Lovely tiny butterflies are placed here and there and the flower is made with lace deco corner #D set.

LACE FLOWER TUTORIAL:

Step 1: cut 5 pieces of lace deco corner #D die in white paper.

Step 2: colour with distress inks.

Step 3: cut the middle part of one diecut like the picture shows.

Step 4: roll around a round stick to shape the flower.

Step 5: glue and here is what you get. Shape the petals gently to the outside using a round brush stick. Do exactly the same steps with a 2nd diecut and glue around the one you just did, shaping petals towards the outside.

Step 6: glue what you achieved on one diecut that you shape towards the outside but don't cut. Then add another layer and shape gently towards the outside but less than before and do end with the last diecut that you use as is. And voilà! Pretty cool isn't it?

T'is The Season

Hi and Good Morning everyone :) Alison here today and Wow! - what amazing entries we had last week in our Happy Holidays challenge, it was wonderful to see so many gorgeous creations.

This weeks challenge theme is 'T'is the Season' and you still have bags of time to enter to be in with a chance of winning a brilliant prize so I hope you find time to play along.

Now I have loved making my christmas cards this year with Cheery Lynn Dies, there are so many fabulous and seasonal dies to choose from I was never stuck for ideas or inspiration.

My card this week uses a 6 x 6 inch blank card base and I layered MME papers onto dark green bazzil cardstock. I cut 2 Tiffany Border dies, enabling me to shadow the dark green with a splash of cream for contrast, and also did the same with the stunning O' Tannenbaum Tree. I hand-beaded pearl seed beads onto the tree following the patterns on the die and this made it really easy and effective! :) I added a the Holly Lace Flourish, Christmas Lights and Holly Corner dies to the card panels before centering my main image onto matted oval stackers. I finally added a bit of twine, wooden snowflake and a moonstone brad for a finishing touch.

Stained Glass Lacey Angel

For my card today, I want to share a fun way to create stained glass using the Cheery Lynn Designs Lacey Angel die. My friend Stacey from Sweet Stamps showed me how to do this.

Step 1: Die cut the Lacey Angel die twice. I die cut it from Cryogen metallic white paper and then again from a patterned paper.

Step 2: Insert the Angel die cut back into the DP, turn it over and add a two sided sticky tape to the back side of the DP. If your tape is not wide enough, just butt the strips up against each other. I used 2.5 inch Scor-Tape.

Here you can see the tape shining through the Angel.

Step 3: Add clear glitter to the Angel, tapping it down where the tape shows through then knocking off the excess. I used Sparkly Sweet Ultrafine Transparent Glitter.

Step 4: Remove the release paper from the tape and add a piece of vellum to the back side of the Angel, covering up all the sticky tape.

Step 5: Add color to your Angel. I used a combination of Pitt Pens and Copic markers. I left the wings clear as well as the bottom edge of her gown. Avoid getting your vellum too wet as it will buckle.

Step 6: Add a light colored card stock behind the Angel to help the colors show through. I used white for my card.

To complete my card, I added a border from the Expandable Tiny Borders die to the top and bottom of my card front. And then die cut my Merry Christmas die, trimming off the snowflakes. Since I had to cut two Angels to get my background DP, I decided to use the extra angel to finish the inside of my card.

I die cut a Scalloped Oval Small Stackers and the matching Silver Oval Small Stackers for my computer generated sentiment. Finished size is 4.25 x 5.5 inches. This is a fun technique and does not take very long to complete. It would work wonderfully with any of the lacey die cuts that Cheery Lynn makes.
